Miss Phoebe started out looking relaxed, how can you resist that sweet face.....
Resting up before the long night, and doing a little "nesting" to get things just right in the whelping box...
Ella always draws the momma dog a picture to hang on the x pen surrounding the whelping box. I love that she chose a rainbow and that the little person is so happily standing under it protected from the rain clouds. Only good things can happen in this whelping box. :)
The puppies started to arrive in the wee small hours of the morning.....
And after a long night that dragged on through a long morning (Phoebe and I were both so tired), Phoebe became the proud mother of a litter of eight happy, squeaky little wee ones. Five red girls, two black girls and one red boy, all are doing very well, putting on lots of weight every day and Phoebe is being a most excellent mother.
I bottle fed a bit for the first few days while Phoebe's milk came in completely. I never feel really relaxed until the puppies are steadily gaining weight and I have no problem boosting them along with a bit of bottle feeding.
All in all the new family is doing fabulous and Daddy Freddy is proudly smoking his cigar. ;)
Stay tuned for new pics as they grow!
Nice update Mariah! Loved the pics and of course the rainbow made the whelping box perfect. I'm hoping that little red boy has my name on his little collar;). I can always hope! As for Freddy, he should be having a celebratoy STEAK not a smelly old cigar. Glad phoebe did so well!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure he would prefer steak too. ;) Glad you liked the pics. :)
DeleteI don't think you were entirely alone all through the night delivering, were you????
